The Merchr Sales Strategy: Tips on how to increase your side-hustle sales

We’ve learnt a thing or two about selling merch and now that we’ve made it easier than ever before for you to sell your own customised merch, we also want to share with you our top sales tips too!

Pricing

Not to sound too obvious but the prices you set for your merch makes a big difference to your sales revenue. Set your prices too high and people are deterred or might want to reconsider before they commit to purchasing… priced too low and the perception of quality and value can be distorted by your customers. Researching into your audience and taking the time to make changes and tweaks to get the right balance is imperative.

It’s also worth noting and implementing the classic psychology tricks of pricing such as selling your t-shirt at £12.99 instead of £13. The science behind this trickery is that the brain processes the first number quicker, so it feels like there is £1 in the difference when there is only 1p.

Marketing

When selling your merch, it’s sensible to put a little time and effort into marketing your products if you want your sales to be as high as possible! We’re not talking about the type of marketing that big budget corporations do but we do think a little bit of marketing goes a long way!

As your own merch designer and creator, it should be easy for you to tell a compelling story about your ideas, your products or brand, your entire merch collection and so on. Conveying this memorable story to your friends, family, fans, or followers through either word-of-mouth, social media or advertising increases the chance of them becoming an engaged and loyal customer.

Trend-watching and the Zeitgeist

Ever heard of the zeitgeist? It’s ok if you haven’t! It’s a German term and in short means “spirit of the times”. Why are we telling you about this you ask?

Keeping your products and designs updated with the latest trends means your merch is relatable and likely to sell, especially if current slogans and trending taglines etc. are featured on high-in-demand products!

Our biggest tip of all is to adapt. Learn when to adapt and how to do it. It’s ok to change your products, your designs, and your prices. Test the waters, change what’s not working for you, keep what is. As we say at Merchr… every day is a learning day!
